Huawei announced the Mate X foldable 5G phone at MWC 2019 last month. This is the company’s first commercial foldable phone that is ready to hit select markets soon. For those wondering, India is confirmed to be one of those markets. And Huawei has just announced that the Mate X will launch in the country later this year. The company has not provided an exact date yet nor its price in India. But you can expect it to come with a pretty eye-watering price tag.

The Huawei Mate X carries an international price of EUR 2,299, which translates to around Rs 1,79,631 in India. Foldable phones are currently in their initial stages, and are likely going to attract early adopters who are willing to pay a premium to get their hands on the future. The Mate X will be available in one colour option – Interstellar Blue.

Huawei’s foldable smartphone differs from Samsung’s Galaxy Fold in design. While the Galaxy Fold offers a flexible display that folds on the inside of the device. And offers a secondary screen on the outside. Huawei’s Mate X comes with a single large display on the outside that folds like a book to split into two displays.

The Mate X offers a single large 8-inch flexible OLED display placed on the face of the device. The display is able to fold almost perfectly flat thanks to a patented Falcon Wing hinge design. Once folded, you get a 6.6-inch 19.5:9 display on one side and a 6.38-inch display on the back. Huawei has optimised the software for the Mate X so the transition between the displays is smooth and glitch-free. In its folded state, the Mate X offers a thickness of around 11mm, which is actually pretty impressive for a foldable phone.

As for the battery, the Mate X houses two batteries on either sides of the device that make up a total of 4,500mAh capacity. The Mate X is powered by a Kirin 980 chipset and comes with the Balong 5000 chipset to enable 5G support.
